Let's try this blog thing...

I had a website for Aidan, and was concerned that Evie wouldn't have the same. I think this is a nice medium - a blog for people to follow along with our family without the hassle of setting up a personalized website just for her! However, when I told Aaron that I was going to try a blog, he was immediately concerned in an Aaron-type way - "Are you going to write about your headaches and what you think about cheese and the cost of milk and all of that?" When I assured him that I was not going to write about nothing at all, but instead about our kids, he seemed cautiously on board for this endeavor.

Aidan has finally adjusted to having 'Lil Siser' around the house. He still needs something RIGHT THIS SECOND as soon as Daddy or I pick her up, but the testy attitude and temper tantrums seem to have calmed down. We've found a nice routine - though I hate to let him watch TV, he gets to watch Sesame Street every morning and that helps with the really rough 9-10 a.m. hour. He's never been a morning person. After his nap, we go to the park or the store or downtown to watch the backhoes and excavators work on the main street in Polk City. We've been doing this off and on all summer, and the operators know my car by now. The backhoe operator came over and offered to let Aidan see the machine up close on Monday, but as soon as Aidan heard it rumbling, he didn't want anything to do with it. The operator was very nice, gave Aidan a high five and told him (and I) to let him know if he changed his mind.

Evie is doing really well - she's gained weight and is now up to 6 lbs, 12 oz or so. At her two-week appointment August 31, she had gained .75 inches and the doctor was very pleased with her progress. I'm excited that the birth announcement will be in the papers this week and the photo announcements have been mailed! Feels to me as if she's officially here!

Aaron and I are doing well too. Each of the kids are easy and yet pose challenges in their own ways, but we can tag team them at night and feel mostly sane by the time 8 p.m. rolls around and Aidan goes to bed! I am excited and yet disappointed that my maternity leave is rapidly running out. Three more weeks until I'm back at work. Aidan thrives at daycare, so I'm happy that he'll be able to go back and play with his friends there. I will miss my time with them both. Three months at home in the summer is a nice break from work, but I started to miss teaching once the beginning of August rolled around. A half-time teaching job would be my dream, but I don't think that'll be doable anytime soon, so we just make this work!
